For multilingual contexts, approaching translation with an inclusive lens isn’t just a good practice, it’s essential. As the EU Parliament emphasizes, “Gender-neutral or gender-inclusive language is more than a matter of political correctness. With 24 official languages, the European Union understands the importance of accurate and unbiased language. Their guidelines on Gender-Neutral Language in the European Parliament classify the language families as follows:

Languages like Danish, English, and Swedish have a more flexible approach to gender. Personal nouns are often gender-neutral, and there are specific personal pronouns for each gender.
Replace gender-specific terms with gender-neutral alternatives.
Instead of Chairman, use Chairperson Instead of Spokesman, use Spokeperson Instead of Stewardess, use Flight Attendant
In languages like German, Romance languages, and Slavic languages, every noun has a grammatical gender, and personal pronouns usually match the reference noun.
Feminine Correspondents: Use feminine forms of masculine terms for job titles.
Double Forms: Employ double forms (e.g., "all professors and all professors") for specific referents.

Instead of: "Le professeur" (the male professor), use "l'enseignant" (the teacher).
Instead of: "La secrétaire" (the female secretary), use "l'assistant administratif" (the administrative assistant).
Instead of: "Les professeurs sont arrivés" (the professors arrived, masculine), use "Les professeur-es sont arrivés" or "Toutes les professeures sont arrivées" (the professors arrived, inclusive).
